Rotary Club of Darjeeling distributed 40 stretchers to different samajs from Darjeeling region from Gymkhana Club, Darjeeling on September 5.

This is the fourth phase of medical stretcher distribution and the club has till date distributed 90 stretchers and two wheelchairs over the past two years, said Mukesh Adhupia, project chairman.

Sunirmal Chakravarti, president, Rotary Club of Darjeeling said that the club took up the project after coming across the difficulties faced by patients in rural areas due to lack of a proper stretcher.

"During the Covid pandemic , we came across stories on how even the dead could not be given a decent burial due to lack of a stretcher," said Chakravarti.

Hansa Rajkumar Chhabria, Sushila Raheja and Muscatel Hotels & Resorts contributed towards this phase of the strecher distribution.
